Most of us don’t care about how we look while watching TV – but we’re not being filmed for an audience of millions.
The Gogglebox cast have to contend with cameras moving round their living rooms as they delve into their telly viewing.
Some of the cast have been on the show for years and their appearances have changed drastically over that time.
Many members of the Gogglebox cast have completely revamped their look after finding fame on the show – and viewers have absolutely loved their new looks.
There have been incredible weight loss stories, some epic new hairstyles and even unrecognisable faces.
Here is a look at some of the Gogglebox gang’s epic transformations.
The Tapper family, which consists of mum Nikki, dad Jonathan and siblings Josh and Amy, were firm favourites when they burst onto screens in 2013.
But the lovable North Londoners began to be whittled down when Josh moved into politics, then Amy left to appear on Celebs Go Dating.
Amy glammed up for her first ever date – and while she ultimately did not find the love of her life she did gain a lot of confidence and made some new celeb pals.
In October this year, Amy delighted fans by showing off her amazing three-stone weight loss and got flooded by messages of support.
Amy felt incredibly proud of herself for maintaining her weight loss as she took to Instagram to share the motivational pictures.
Sharing a side-by-side snap of her before and after dropping the pounds, the TV star penned: “#throwbackthursday to the progress I made when following Muscle Food’s @mfgoalgettersuk plan! (which used to be called Do The Unthinkable!)
“I’m so proud that I’ve been able to keep the 3 stone I lost off and still feel healthier and fitter than I did this time last year!!!!”
Amy said she had achieved her goal by slowly making changes to her routine, rather than aiming for a quick fix.
Speaking on Lorraine at the start of the year, she said: “I think there are a lot of things that are quick fixes and you just put the weight back on.
“I think the slower the better.”
Amy also sent social media into meltdown as she unveiled a behind the scenes snap from her upcoming show Celebs Go Skating.
In the picture, Amy had undergone a dazzling makeover and had her locks blow dried into loose, bouncy curls.
Fans quickly flocked to the comment section to share their approval of the stunning snap.
Meanwhile, Jonathan lost three stone in just 12 weeks after being diagnosed with diabetes in early 2019.
The chaffeur admitted he had piled on the pounds after slouching on the sofa watching telly, but vowed to start a healthy new regime after discovering he has Type 2 diabetes.
“I love to eat so keeping the weight off has always been a struggle,” he explained.
“I’ve lost weight a few times, through cutting out the rubbish in my diet and upping the exercise, but over the years the pounds have slowly crept back on.”
Jonathan explained that getting paid to sit around watching TV for 12 hours at a time didn’t help and his new healthy lifestyle improved his physical and mental health.
“I’ve never been one for short-term quick fix diets,” he told The Mirror.
“For me it’s always been about making a lifestyle change not just wanting to lose a few pounds for a special occasion.
“Being a chauffeur, I’d spend the bulk of my day sat behind the wheel getting no exercise.
“Filming for Gogglebox could take up to 12 hours a week and that was 12 hours that I was paid to sit around without moving.”
Jonathan believes his weight loss may have saved his life after he contracted Covid earlier this year.
The Tapper family were concerned when Jonathan was left struggling to breathe and could barely move.
Thankfully, Jonathan made a full recovery and the family credited his recent weight loss to helping him fight the virus, which he battled for weeks.
Ellie and Izzi Warner
Leeds-based sister Ellie and Izzi Warner have been keeping us in stitches since joining Gogglebox in 2015.
And both of them have undergone major changes in hairstyles over the years – getting more and more glamours as they went on.
Both sisters had very glam makeovers during lockdown, with Ellie going for a very different look.
Not one to follow the crowd, Ellie transformed her blonde locks into a daring two-toned style, featuring dark lilac on one side and a striking neon pink on the other.
Then just a week later, Ellie made another change by dying her hair blue and pink.
The top of her locks went bright blue, the middle a vivid pink and the bottom back to the same shade of blue.
Ellie, who is a hairdresser herself, compared her new barnet to a Tango Ice Blast, the hugely popular slush drink that’s sold in cinemas.
She isn’t the only Warner sister to make a change, as Izzi also got in on the action during lockdown.
Izzi told fans that she “felt like Beyonce ” after she shared a slimmed down picture of herself looking more glamorous than ever.
She captioned the picture: “Feeling windswept like Beyonce. The best of a bad bunch when all you have is your bf to take pictures.”
This week, Izzi debuted her natural hair transformation to her delighted Instagram followers, who couldn’t get enough of her new look.
“Love a lazy wavy hair do,” Izzi wrote, before adding easy steps for fans to follow to achieve her looks: “Wash it, plait it, leave it, job done.”
Siblings Pete and Sophie, from Blackpool, have become one of the stand out pairs since starting on the show in 2017.
Aside from their hilarious banter, Gogglebox viewers are always wowed by Sophie’s changing locks.
The stunning reality TV star started off with dark hair but has since gone through a number of incredible styles.
Just to show that she’s not afraid to change up her look, Sophie debuted a new blonde style before the latest series of Gogglebox.
Before that Sophie tried out candyfloss pink, electric blue and even a bold mix of pink and green hair in lockdown – proving she’s not shy about experimenting with her style.
Fans were not only surprised by the colour change but by seeing Sophie in specs, which is seemingly not required when she is watching the TV.
Sophie used the first lockdown to try out a few new looks and one that really caught the attention of her fans was this summery look that evoked sun-drenched evenings.
She was hailed as “totally gorgeous” in the comments as her followers loved her hair transforming into a purple haze.
When Stephen first started on Gogglebox way back in the first series he looked slightly different to now.
One of the few remaining original stars, Stephen first started filming with ex-boyfriend Chris in 2013.
At that stage, Stephen had a slick hairstyle with a bit of a combover going on, but it’s been all change recently.
The hairdressing duo had viewers in stitches every week with their sarcastic one-liners and hilarious gags, with Chris responsible for one of the most hysterical moments in Gogglebox history.
“We all like a bad boy though, don’t we,” admitted Chris as he sat watching the TV.
As they were watching a hard-hitting programme, baffled Stephen replied: “Yeah, not a f***ing terrorist though Chris. There’s a bad boy and then there’s evil.”
But after a behind-the-scenes falling out, Chris left in February 2018 and was replaced by Stephen’s mum Pat initially.
Now Stephen is joined on the sofa by husband Daniel Lustig, who first appeared in 2019, and that’s not the only change.
At the start of this year, Stephen unveiled a brand new hairdo, revealing he had grown it out and was trying to get a middle parting.
“I’m almost at optimal curtain length,” said Stephen. “This is me when I was 19, like, ‘Oi, Dave, you coming raving tonight?”
It has been a bit hit and miss with viewers at home.
Some love his new look, while others jokingly compared him to Perry from Kevin and Perry Go Large.
Tom Malone Sr.
The Malone family, which includes dad Tom Senior, mum Julie and kids Shaun and Tom Junior, have been a part of Gogglebox since 2014.
And a lot has changed since then.
Lorry driver Tom Sr. stunned fans in August this year when he emerged from lockdown looking like a new man.
The Malones had been working hard during lockdown and Tom wowed fans with their recent weight loss by sharing their latest TikTok dance.
But it wasn’t just Tom’s energetic dance moves that were caught the attention of viewers.
As Tom busted a groove beside his son- who is a member of a professional dance crew – fans began to comment that the TV star was looking noticeably slimmer.
The dance clip, entitled ‘Managed to get my Dad involved’, has now been viewed more than 450,000 times.
And the comment section is full of praise for Tom Senior’s hard work, with many noting it’s particularly commendable to stay fit and healthy throughout the recent long.
“He’s getting thinner and thinner!” cried one fan after laying eyes on Tom in his shorts.
“Tom Snr done good. He’s lost some amount of weight. Looking good,” observed another.
They also managed to get mum Julie involved as they broke out into a hilarious dance routine to classic Nightcrawlers track ‘Push The Feeling On’.
Tom Jnr and his parents also looked worlds away from the telly trio who first joined the hit Channel 4 reality show back in 2014.
Tom Malone Jr.
Tom Jr. joined Gogglebox with the rest of the Malone clan back in 2014 – and has changed quite a bit since then.
The freelance model and streetdance choreographer, who has performed with a load of big name artists including the Black Eyed Peas, left fans in disbelief earlier this year when he showed off his transformation.
The Gogglebox star took to social media to share a throwback picture from his childhood – and people couldn’t believe how different he looked.
Alongside a snap of Tom as we know and love him, with his short shaved hair and beard, he posted a snap of himself back in the day.
The before pic showed him free of facial hair and with a floppy hair do, including Superman-style wisps hanging down at the front.
Sharing the snap on Twitter, he joked: “Do these two pictures even look like the same person?”
One of his fans suggested: “You look better without the beard! Maybe you should shave it off and donate money to charity.”
Another told him he looked more like his dad now, while a third said his transformation reminded them of “Clark Kent and Superman”.
And who can forget when Tom used to have that top knot.
Jenny and Lee
Jenny Newby and Lee Riley have often been mistaken for mother and son or even husband and wife in the past.
But the hilarious pair, who have been firm Gogglebox favourites since they started in 2014, have actually been best friends for decades.
They became pals 21 years ago when Jenny was a landlady at a pub in Paull, East Yorkshire, and Lee was a regular.
And Lee, who jokingly admits he regrets going in the pub, made a awkward remark about Jenny’s hair when they first met.
Lee sent sent social media into meltdown in May when he shared a sensational vintage snap of the pair.
He grinned from ear to ear as he posed next to Jenny on one of their cruise holidays in 2004.
While Jenny looked unrecognisable as she donned a edgy dark brown bob and was gripping onto a bouquet of flowers.
Funnyman Lee was quick to shut down any jokes about the picture looking like a wedding photograph.
“Old photo 16 years ago of me and Jenny on a cruise taking the p**s and no before you ask we didn’t get married,” he wrote in the caption.
Lee sheared another epic throwback snap in honour of his pal Jenny on her birthday in June.
Charismatic Jenny sports a black dress and gold necklace in the lovely photo and Lee put on a dapper display in a black tuxedo.
Their actual partners have never been seen on screen – and do not wish to take part in the Channel 4 show.
The breakout star from Gogglebox, there has been a lot of change for Scarlett over the years.
After entertaining the nation for two years, Scarlett left County Durham to appear on I’m A Celebrity where she was crowned Queen of the jungle during the 16th series.
The blossoming TV presenter hosted the revived version of Streetmate on Channel 4, appeared on Celebrity Juice, First Dates, Through The Keyhole and alongside Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly on Saturday Night Takeaway.
Scarlett released her own lucrative fitness DVD, which made her £100,000 and saw her plunge from a size 18 to a svelte 8 in 2016.
But she was embroiled in controversy when she was accused of lying about how she dropped three stone for Scarlett’s SuperSlim Me Plan.
And while she claimed she’d stuck to a healthy 1,200-calorie a day diet and incorporated exercise into her daily routine, the reality was that she’d been driven to breaking point by cutting her daily intake to just 600-700 calories.
She had been doing hours of rigorous workouts and even going to an ultra-tough boot camp in Switzerland to shed the weight.
After her DVD came out on Boxing Day 2017 – just two weeks after she won I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! – it flew to the top of the charts and Scarlett embarked on a promotional tour, telling media a fake version of how she’d lost three stone through healthy means.
But the producers of her DVD demanded their £100,000 back after she regained the weight less than a year after its publication, sparking a long back-and-forth between their legal teams.
Scarlett had slimmed down from a size 18 to an 8, but put weight back on to disassociate herself with the controversial DVD.
“I slowly realised it was quite detrimental to my mental health,” she said on Frankie Bridge’s Open Mind Podcast.
“I’ve also deleted all my before and after pictures…Not only were they bad for my peace of mind it wasn’t really good for other people because now I look like my before picture again.
“I sort of rebelled against the DVD because I just didn’t like how it happened and I just wasn’t for it anymore.
“I purposefully started putting weight on. I was sort of like, if I get big again it can’t get brought up. I can’t have this stigma attached to me about this DVD and people will stop buying it.”
