CNBC reports that McKesson, a medical supply company, will receive doses of the Moderna vaccine for packaging and distributing to 3,285 sites, according to Gen. Gustave Perna who is in charge of logistics for Operation Warp Speed, the White House’s COVID-19 vaccine program. Perna said that UPS and FedEx have been tasked with getting the vaccine doses to their final locations.

CNBC reports that the vaccine could be approved as early as Friday, one week after Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine was granted emergency use authorization. Similar to Pfizer, Moderna’s vaccine is given in two doses spaced four weeks apart.

Operation Warp Speed, a public-private effort, developed the Pfizer vaccine in less than a year, an astonishing feat since most vaccines take years to develop. Delivery was speedy, too — shipping companies FedEx and UPS started transport on Sunday and completed all first-day vaccine deliveries.

President Trump said on Sunday night that he would delay a plan for senior White House staff members to receive the coronavirus vaccine in the coming days.

The shift came just hours after The New York Times reported that the administration was rapidly planning to distribute the vaccine to its staff at a time when the first doses are generally being reserved for high-risk health care workers.

Mr. Trump, who tested positive for the coronavirus in October and recovered after being hospitalized, also implied that he would get the vaccine himself at some point in the future, but said he had no immediate plans to do so.

“People working in the White House should receive

Despite promises of solidarity on Covid-19, rich countries are snapping up the supply of promising vaccines

When 90-year-old Margaret Keenan received the world’s first clinically authorized and tested Covid-19 vaccine earlier this week, the end of the Covid-19 pandemic seemed finally in reach.

First U.S. Coronavirus Vaccines Set to Be Delivered Monday

Gen. Gustave F. Perna, chief officer of Operation Warp Speed, said boxes of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were being readied for shipment with an emphasis on quality control.

“We have realized the greatest public-private partnership in modern times: Doctors, scientists, researchers, factory workers, logisticians and hundreds more have all come together for a singular purpose. That purpose: Save lives and end the pandemic. We checked our egos at the door. We worked collectively to solve the problem. And we have achieved success as was identified last night by the F.D.A. when they approved E.U.A. of the Pfizer vaccine.” “Make no mistake, distribution has begun. Right now, boxes are being packed and loaded with vaccine with emphasis on quality control. Within the next 24 hours, they will begin

Trump Pushes For Fast Pfizer Approval As Other Vaccines Hit Snags

President Donald Trump on Friday piled pressure on the US drug regulator to quickly approve the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine as America readied to roll out mass immunizations.

The Washington Post reported that the White House told the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) chief Stephen Hahn to submit his resignation if the agency does not clear the vaccine by the end of the day.

Hahn later disputed the characterization of the call, but the alleged threat came as Trump tweeted that the agency was a “big, old, slow turtle” and told Hahn to get the “dam” vaccines out immediately.

(Reuters) – CVS Health Corp and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc expect to administer the first Pfizer Inc COVID-19 vaccines to residents of long-term U.S. nursing homes on December 21, executives at the companies said.

That will be followed by shots from Moderna Inc about a week later, they told Reuters.

Pfizer and BioNTech SE could receive emergency authorization for their COVID-19 vaccine from regulators as soon as Friday. Moderna’s regulatory process is about a week behind.

Officials have said that Pfizer and the U.S. government will begin distributing the shots within 24 hours of receiving a regulatory green light, and hospitals are planning to give healthcare workers the first shots early next week.

Walmart readies for COVID vaccines; 5,000 pharmacies being prepared

Eggs. Bread. Milk. And a COVID vaccine.

Walmart is preparing its pharmacies to be able to administer the COVID vaccine once it is approved in the U.S. The preparations involve some 5,000 Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies.

“With 90% of the American population living within 10 miles of a Walmart, we will play an important part in making sure those who want a vaccine can get one when they are eligible based on their state’s prioritization, especially those in hard to reach parts of the country that have recently been hit hard by the epidemic,” said Dr. Tom Van Gilder, Chief Medical Officer, Walmart.

Gilder said pharmacies are being equipped with freezer, as well as dry ice, to handle any requirements for storing the vaccine. Walmart is also entering into agreements with states to be able to support vaccinations where needed, whether in its own pharmacies or long-term care facilities.

The Health 202: The FDA could okay the first coronavirus vaccines any time now

Advisers to the Food and Drug Administration have agreed Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine is safe enough to use.

At the end of a day-long meeting yesterday, the 15-member Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee was asked to consider this statement: “Based on the totality of scientific evidence available, do the benefits of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine outweigh its risks for use in individuals 16 years of age and older?”

The members voted 17-to-4 in favor of that statement, with one member abstaining.

The vote makes it all but certain the FDA will authorize the vaccine on an emergency use basis within hours or days, kicking off an unprecedented effort to inoculate enough Americans to stop the rampaging pandemic, my colleagues Laurie McGinley and Carolyn Y. Johnson write.

If as expected, the FDA follows quickly with an emergency authorization, the shots will start being moved to the states within 24

Two Vaccines Hit Snags As Pfizer Nears US Approval

Two vaccine candidates stumbled Friday in the race among researchers to combat Covid-19, a setback for the global immunisation effort even as the Pfizer-BioNTech jab neared approval in the US.

The mixed news on the vaccine front comes as infections accelerated fast in North America and parts of Africa but started to stabilise in Europe and drop in Asia and the Middle East.

Around the world more than 1.58 million lives have been lost to Covid-19 since it emerged in China a year ago, according to an AFP tally from official sources.
